Introduction of Uttaranchal

Uttaranchal is a beautiful place situated in northern part of India. It consists of regions Garhwal, Kumaon and Tehri. Uttaranchal is a hilly region of northern state of India known as Uttar Pradesh (UP). Thirteen hilly district of UP (Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Champawat, Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Pauri Garhwal, Rudra Prayag, Tehri Garhwal, Udham singh Nagar, Uttarkashi) are part of Uttaranchal.

This area is also known as Dev Bhoomi (Land of God and Goddess) as many famous Temples of Hindu’s are situated here. Prominent of them is Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamnotri. Beside this temple of Booda Kedar, Ansuya Devi, Surkanda Devi , Tri-Yoogi-Narain and gurudwara Hemkund saahib is also here.

Famous and holy river of Hindu religion Ganga (Ganges) and Yamuna originates here from Goumukh and Yamnotri glacier respectively.

Because of beautiful hills and flora & fauna, Garhwal has ample opportunity as a tourist place and there are many places to visit. Any person who loves the nature and visiting beautiful and scenic place must visit this area. This region is heaven for Mountaineers and trekkers.

Dehradun, Rishikesh, Hardwar, Kathgodam and Kotdwara are the entry point or door to Garhwal, which can be approached by train.

Most of the people in Garhwal follow Hindu religion and they are called Garhwali or Kumaoni. People here speak a Hindi dialect called as Garhwali or Kumaoni. Although this dialect differ a bit from place to place. Hindi is well understood and spoken in this area. Being a tourist place many people can be found knowing English.

After invasion of Tibet by China, Many Tibetan people have also settled in this region.

There is a proposal to make a separate state out of this region which will be known as Uttaranchal.
